In life, there exists a phase where people come across the urge to devote time to God and his teachings. A large number of people in India are dedicated to worshiping Gods residing in temples and similar sites. To be thankful to almighty and have the all the sins washed off, people visit holy pilgrim places every year to attain peace of mind. Some of the greatest holy pilgrimage places in India are put to attention here.
Hinduism– For all the Hindu pilgrims, the place of worship is spread across the nation. Amongst the temples for one million Hindu deity gods, the major ones are:
- Char Dham– The travel to four major places in India namely Yamunotri, Gangotri, Badrinath and Kedarnath completes the Char Dham The yatra is regarded as the ultimate religious journey for all Hindu followers.
- Amaranth– The temple of Lord Shiva in the Himalayan region of Amaranth is visited by lakhs of pilgrims from May to June. The place is said to have the existing proofs of Lord Shiva.
- Vaishno Devi– Tirukuta Mountains house the shrine of the Maa Vaishno deity that is one of the most worshipped Gods in the Hindu culture.
- Mathura–Vrindavan– Lord Krishna is believed to have been born and brought up in Mathura and Vrindavan region of Uttar Pradesh. The place has a large number of temples dedicated to the various avatars of Lord Krishna.
Islam–
- Jama Masjid– The capital of India, Delhi, witnesses the existence of the magnificent Islamic pilgrimage site that accommodates thousands of devotees at one single time and is believed to be housing the remains of Mohammad, the founder of Islam religion.
- Mecca Masjid– This place of Islamic importance was built from bricks brought from the Mecca region. Situated in Hyderabad, the place is one of the biggest mosques in India.
Sikhism–
- Golden Temple– The doors of this Sikh pilgrimage are said to be open to people from all religions. Located in Punjab, a state in India, this place is all constructed in gold and holds utmost importance for Sikh spirituality.
- Anandpur Sahib– Located in Punjab, this place is believed to have created a high level of spiritual connect with the Sikh followers and is henceforth visited by large number of pilgrims every year.
- Gurudwara Paonta Sahib- This Sikh pilgrimage is a symbol of sacrifices by Guru Gobind Singh Ji and houses the religious Dasam Granth written by Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
Christianity–
- Francis of Assisi– Located in Goa state of India, the church was built in 1521 AD by Franciscan friars to spread awareness about Christianity. This place is the point of connectivity between St. Francis of Assisi and St. Cathedral.
- Santa Cruz Basilica– Originally built by the Portuguese in Kerala, this church was open to visitors in 1672 AD and become a basilica in 1984.
- Basilica of Bom Jesus– This church houses the tomb of St. Francis Xavier and is one of the most visited churches in India. Located in Goa, this one has beautiful interiors and is well maintained.
